Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing situation in Gaza as well as the broader spectrum of India–Israel bilateral relations, officials said.
The discussion took place amid continuing hostilities in the Gaza Strip and growing international concern over civilian casualties, humanitarian access, and regional stability in West Asia.
Focus on Gaza Developments
According to official sources, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and underscored the need for early restoration of peace and stability. He emphasized the importance of restraint, dialogue, and adherence to international humanitarian law.
The Israeli Prime Minister briefed Modi on Israel’s perspective regarding the security situation and the steps being taken by his government in response to the ongoing conflict.
India has consistently maintained that terrorism has no justification while also calling for the protection of civilian lives and humanitarian assistance for affected populations.
India’s Balanced West Asia Approach
Officials said the exchange reflected India’s balanced and pragmatic approach toward West Asia, where New Delhi maintains strong relations with Israel alongside long-standing ties with Palestine and key Arab nations.
India has previously supported humanitarian aid to Gaza and has called for a negotiated two-state solution, stressing dialogue as the only viable path to lasting peace.
“The Prime Minister conveyed India’s position of de-escalation and humanitarian concern, while also reaffirming India’s commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms,” a source familiar with the discussion said.
Bilateral Ties Reviewed
Beyond the Gaza situation, the two leaders reviewed India–Israel cooperation in areas such as defence, security, technology, innovation, agriculture, and trade. Both sides noted the steady expansion of strategic ties over the years and expressed satisfaction over ongoing collaboration.
India and Israel have deepened cooperation in recent decades, particularly in defence production, intelligence sharing, water management, and advanced technologies.
Officials said the leaders agreed to remain in touch and continue engagement at various levels to further strengthen the bilateral partnership.
Diplomatic Engagement Continues
The conversation is part of India’s ongoing diplomatic outreach amid global geopolitical tensions, with New Delhi engaging key regional and international stakeholders to promote stability and protect its strategic interests.
As the Gaza conflict continues to draw global attention, India’s leadership has sought to balance its security concerns, humanitarian responsibilities, and diplomatic relationships in a volatile region.
