A Violent Break-In, A Rapid Arrest

In a dramatic overnight operation, police in New York have arrested the man accused of storming into lawyer Alina Habba’s Midtown Manhattan office with a baseball bat, smashing furniture and overturning case files in what investigators described as a “targeted act of intimidation.”

Detectives confirmed to The Vagabond News that the suspect — identified only as a 34-year-old male pending arraignment — was tracked using building security footage and apprehended at a friend’s apartment in Queens early Monday morning.

Officials say no staff members were injured, though the office reportedly sustained “significant property damage.”

How the Attack Unfolded

According to police sources, the suspect entered the commercial tower shortly after 9 p.m., bypassing security by tailgating behind an exiting employee. Once inside Habba’s floor, he allegedly pulled a metal bat from a duffel bag and began smashing glass partitions, computer screens, and file cabinets.

Employees who were still working in adjacent suites heard the commotion and alerted security, prompting a building lockdown. By the time officers arrived, the attacker had fled via a stairwell.

Investigators are reviewing whether the ransack was linked to ongoing high-profile legal cases handled by Habba.

Motive Under Investigation

Police sources said early findings point to a premeditated intimidation attempt, though they did not confirm whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a coordinated effort.

A senior investigator told TVN that several documents appeared “specifically targeted,” though their contents were not disclosed.

Authorities are also probing the suspect’s online postings, which reportedly contain aggressive political language and complaints against prominent legal figures.

What’s Next

The suspect is expected to be charged with felony burglary, criminal mischief, and possession of a weapon. Prosecutors are also weighing additional charges tied to obstruction and interference with legal proceedings.

Habba’s office has not yet issued a formal statement, but sources close to her team say staff have been advised to work remotely until repairs and additional security installations are completed.

More details are expected as the case moves into arraignment.
