Eagles star ejected vs. Cowboys for disgusting act toward QB Dak Prescott: ‘Suspend that man’

UPDATE: During the Eagles-Cowboys weather delay, NFL referee Shawn Smith spoke with PWFA pool reporter Zach Berman about Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter’s ejection. Here’s the Q&A:

Question: What did you observe that led to the disqualification (of Philadelphia defensive tackle Jalen Carter)?

Smith: “One of the officials observed him spitting on an opponent.”

Question: Why did that rise to the level of disqualification as opposed to a different penalty?

Smith: “It’s a disqualifiable foul in the game. It’s a non-football act.”

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was kicked out of Thursday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys before the first snap.

Carter was captured on the broadcast spitting in quarterback Dak Prescott’s face, which drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and an ejection.

As one of the best defensive players in the NFL, Carter’s poor decision-making could hurt the Eagles’ defense. Philadelphia’s defensive line will struggle to generate pressure without Carter, who consistently wrecks offensive game plans.

The Cowboys scored a touchdown on the first drive. A 32-yard catch from wide receiver CeeDee Lamb moved Dallas to Philadelphia’s 1-yard line. Two plays later, Cowboys running back Javonte Williams crossed the end zone.

Carter’s temper has been a problem throughout his career, and his immaturity could ultimately hinder his potential.

Eagles fans and media pundits were not happy with Carter.

“Legitimately cannot wrap my head around this from Jalen Carter,” an Eagles fan wrote on X. “There’s not even an argument to be made here. Clear as day he spit on him. Won’t be shocked in the slightest if he gets suspended. Absolutely insane & disappointing move. WTF.”

“Jalen Carter are you (expletive) serious bruh!!” ESPN analyst Ryan Clark said on X. ” That’s some disrespectful, disgusting stuff man… and the lineman supposed to jump him!

“Wanna know why Jalen Carter fell to the ninth pick?” NFL insider Albert Breer wrote on X.

“To hell with just an ejection. Suspend that man,” Stephen A Smith said. “How in the HELL could you do something like that? Inexcusable! Stupid! Selfish! #Damn!”

What’s next for Carter?

He could be suspended for next week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Best-case scenario, the All-Pro DT will receive a huge fine.
