Eagles-Cowboys live updates: Play resumes after lightning delay

PHILADELPHIA — Good evening from the Lincoln Financial Field press box. Follow along for live updates from the Eagles’ 2025 season opener against the Cowboys.

THIRD QUARTER

Lightning delay update

With 4:44 to go in the third quarter — just before 10:30 p.m. — the game was suspended due to lightning. Both teams retreated to their respective locker rooms, and fans left the seating area at Lincoln Financial Field.

One hour later, we’ll have football again. The delay is expected to resume at 11:30 p.m. Both teams have a warmup period beginning at 11:15 p.m.

8:30 — Eagles 24, Cowboys 20

Jake Elliott, wow. Elliott drills a 58-yard field goal that would have been good from 65. Great start for the veteran who went 1/7 from field goals of 50-plus yards last season.

SECOND QUARTER

0:00 — Eagles 21, Cowboys 20

Dallas, aided by a roughing the passer flag on Nolan Smith, executed a seven-play field goal drive at the end of the half. Brandon Aubrey remains automatic, drilling one from 53 yards to end an absolutely bonkers first half.

0:51 — Eagles 21, Cowboys 17

Can confirm that Saquon Barkley is still really, really good. He’s made some impressive runs tonight with little space to work with, bobbing and weaving through the Cowboys’ defense. He did it there for his first touchdown of the season, a 10-yard plunge into the end zone. Speaking of former Penn State stars, Jahan Dotson made a 51-yard catch on that drive, showing his chemistry with Jalen Hurts.
