Eagles-Cowboys updates: Barkley, Hurts look to close out opener

PHILADELPHIA — Good evening from the Lincoln Financial Field press box. Follow along for live updates from the Eagles’ 2025 season opener against the Cowboys.

FOURTH QUARTER

3:02 — Eagles 24, Cowboys 20

The Eagles had a chance to ice the game … and they went three-and-out. It’s up to the defense.

4:43 — Eagles 24, Cowboys 20

Nick Sirianni often talks about the importance of a four-minute offense. The Eagles have the ball at their own 24-yard line with a chance to ice the game. Will Saquon Barkley and the run game do their job like they did all last year? Will Jalen Hurts finally target A.J. Brown? We’ll find out.

A second spitter

We haven’t had any scoring since the game resumed from a lightning delay. But we do have more context around Jalen Carter’s ejection for spitting on Dak Prescott.

NBC showed footage of Prescott spitting in Carter’s direction — not on him — and smiling at the Eagles’ defensive tackle before Carter spat on the Cowboys quarterback. It doesn’t excuse Carter’s actions. But it does give some semblance of a reason why he would do what he did.

We also got an explanation from the NFL referee, Shawn Smith, on why he ejected Carter.
